168 Hudson Valley Workers to Lose Jobs Due to Plant Closings
Two plant closings will leave 168 Hudson Valley residents without a job.
The New York State Department of Labor posted notice on their website that two plants would be shutting down this spring. A recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) was made public showing that Fluor, which provides building maintenance, janitorial services, along with construction and design for IBM, would be closing for good on May 2. The plant employs 85 people, all of which will be let go.
The company's offices are located within IBM on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie near Spackenkill Rd. According to the notification, Fluor's services will be taken over by Jang LaSalle.
Last month it was announced that Jabil, a global manufacturing service company, would also be closing down this spring. Starting in April the business will begin to shut its doors due to economic reasons. Eventually, it will be completely closed. The plant is also located in the IBM campus on Route 9. That closure will leave another 83 employees out of work.
