Some people have no problem letting someone else make all the decisions, as they just follow along. However, if the idea of answering to a boss bothers you, you might be better off working for yourself.
Let's face it, the right job can be satisfying, but the it's usually the pursuit of money that makes us perform best. Becoming self-employed gives you a real opportunity to control your financial destination. Think about it, if you're a salaried employee, you're making the same amount no matter how hard you work. But, if you're self-employed and willing to hustle it could work out financially for you.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying downtime, but if you get more pleasure out of doing productive things with your time, you might fare well being self-employed. Pushing yourself to make the extra effort is the key to being successful.

Of course there steps you can take to minimize risk associated with becoming self-employed, like having an actual business to start up. Also starting with an emergency fund would be a wise thing to do.
When you're the boss, you can abide by your own hours and schedule. No more asking permission to leave early to go see your kid's baseball game, or ballet recital. You can do your job when it works for you.
