It looks like it's the end for another favorite Hudson Valley hot spot.

This has been a tough year for Hudson Valley businesses. There have been endless stories about local restaurants and businesses that have closed their doors either by choice or financial difficulties. This week another beloved Hudson Valley restaurant mysteriously closed down and although posted signs hint that it's temporary, the owner has confirmed that she is stepping away.

BC Kitchen and Bar, formerly known as Babycakes, near Vassar College in Poughkeepsie was dark on Wednesday night. A sign on the door simply read "Closed For Renovations." Curiously, there was no sign of construction or any warning made to customers about the closure. A check of the businesses' social media channels also revealed that there was no announcement made on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook about the closing, leaving almost 3,000 followers in the dark about the restaurant's future.

However, one response from the owner on the restaurant's Facebook feed confirms that the business is up for sale. When asked if the restaurant was really closed, owner Susan Catherine Ardito replied.

Yes, I can’t run it from a distance. I am in the process of selling.

We tried to call BC Kitchen to find out more information, but the company's phone had already been disconnected. We also reached out to the owner online and are awaiting a response. Yelp currently lists the business as closed.

Ardito also owned another popular Poughkeepsie restaurant that was sold a few years ago. Soul Dog on Main Street in Poughkeepsie shut down in 2016. Coincidentally, two years ago Ardito said that she was stepping away from Soul Dog because she moved out of the area and was unable to run it from so far away, the same reason BC Kitchen is now closed.

Much like Soul Dog, BC Kitchen will certainly be missed. The popular breakfast spot and late night destination has been a favorite hangout for many Vassar College students, as well as residents in and around the Arlington area. We will continue to follow the story and let you know if anyone decides to purchase the restaurant and reopen it.
