Book Written By Hudson Valley Author, With Former President to Become TV Series
A Hudson Valley best-selling author’s new book that he wrote with a former President is set to become a TV series.
Showtime announced it acquired the rights to adapt "The President Is Missing," based on the highly anticipated novel by President Bill Clinton and bestselling author James Patterson, into a series
“Bringing 'The President Is Missing' to Showtime is a coup of the highest order,” President and CEO of Showtime David Nevins said in a press release. “The pairing of President Clinton with fiction’s most gripping storyteller promises a kinetic experience, one that the book world has salivated over for months and that now will dovetail perfectly into a politically relevant, character-based action series for our network.”
In the book, which is set for a June 2018 release, President Clinton and Patterson tell the startling story of a sitting U.S. president’s disappearance, with the level of detail that only someone who has held the office knows.
"Working on a book about a sitting president — drawing on what I know about the job, life in the White House and the way Washington works — has been a lot of fun," Clinton said after the book deal was announced. "And working with Jim has been terrific. I've been a fan of his for a very long time."
Clinton and Patterson, a former Newburgh resident, became friends while golfing together over 10 years ago.
"Working with President Clinton has been the highlight of my career, and having access to his firsthand experience has uniquely informed the writing of this novel," Patterson said. "I'm a storyteller, and President Clinton's insight has allowed us to tell a really interesting one. It's a rare combination — readers will be drawn to the suspense, of course, but they'll also be given an inside look into what it's like to be president."
Patterson was born in Newburgh in 1947. He lived in the Hudson Valley with his parents until leaving for college. Mentions of Newburgh and the Hudson Valley have appeared in a number of Patterson’s books.
