I-84 in Dutchess County Will Be Closed For 2 Hours Due to Accident
As the snow continues to pile up throughout the Hudson Valley, accidents on major roadways like I-84 are triggering road closures.
For those who found their morning commute to be a breeze will be in for an entirely different story on the drive home. The New York State Department of Transportation says that an accident on I-84 has downed some power lines, causing the state to close down the entire westbound side until just before 6pm.
The accident occurred on the westbound side of I-84, east of exit 13 (Route 9). The road was closed at 3:45pm and officials say it will remain impassable for two hours. Travelers should expect long delays and look for alternate routes.
There is also a road closure on Route 213 in Ulster County between Wilber Avenue and Dewitt Street. More power lines came down at 3:30pm, causing officials to close the road for two hours.
Many roads have travel restrictions, with trucks and large vehicles banned from certain roadways. Local counties, including Dutchess, have also started implementing a state of emergency. This means that travel is restricted to essential personnel on all roads within the county.
