It's Friday. It's 7:00 PM. You're getting ready to go out, maybe you're hitting the bars, maybe you're seeing a movie. And then your phone buzzes. And you pick it up. And it's that guy from work you can't stand. Let's call him Bartholomew. And he's emailing you because he screwed something up so bad and you're the only one who can fix it, and it has to be right now.

Does that sound like an incredibly frustrating, stressful situation? At least one city council member from New York City thinks so, too. According to the Daily Voice, Rafael Espinal is planning on introducing legislation that would actually outlaw employees checking their work emails after work hours. I don't even know how you would enforce something like that, but his ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to his newsletter.

I'd be curious to see how this works if it does pass, though I will throw out there that maybe the actual sending of work emails after hours is what should be outlawed, not reading them. What do you think?
