Update: We May Get Less Snow Than Predicted; Or Not
Forecasts have been changing for this week's snow storm so quickly, anything may still happen.
For the past 24 hours we've been expecting a major snow event from Tuesday through Wednesday. Up until this morning the forecast has been calling for up to 8 inches of snow. Just after 8am, the Weather Channel revised their forecast, calling for just 1 to 3 inches in the Poughkeepsie area on Tuesday evening. That's down considerably from the 3 to 5 inches that was predicted just an hour earlier.
Predicting the weather isn't an exact science, but this storm system has proven to be even harder to nail down. While we let the "experts" figure out just how much snow we'll have, it's best to be prepared for the worst case scenario.
Many schools in Ulster and Sullivan County have closed down for Tuesday in anticipation of the storm.Schools that did open throughout the rest of the Hudson Valley are already announcing early dismissals because of the snow, but if the latest forecast holds true it doesn't look like much snow is really expected until Tuesday evening.
