You know what I think of when I think of the Hudson Valley? Apple picking. I think it's safe to say everyone thinks of that. Think of how many people come to the Hudson Valley region just to experience fall. Whether you're local or a tourist, there are definitely some things you need to bring when apple picking:

1. Blanket

There's nothing like laying down a blanket and enjoying the apples you just picked. Make sure you get an outdoor blanket like this one, otherwise it could get ruined from going on the ground. A thick material blanket or one with weather-resistant material is ideal.

2. Backpack Cooler

I specifically choose a backpack cooler when apple picking because you never know what the terrain will be like. Rocky? Muddy? Grassy? Wheeled coolers are great, but not ideal for all types of ground. A backpack cooler keeps you hands-free and not having to worry about dragging it around. It's the perfect way to keep some snacks and drinks cool for you to enjoy the day.

3. Portable Battery Pack

Nothing is worse than wanting to take tons of cute pictures...and your phone dies. Never have that happen again with a portable battery pack. These babies are small enough to fit in your pocket and get a pretty good charge for your phone. The bigger you go, the more battery life you'll get, but I like this super small one so I don't have to worry about it taking up space.

4. Thermos

Hot apple cider? Sign me up. Cold apple cider? I'm interested. When you buy a jug or a hot cup from the orchard, throw it in a thermos to have it the perfect temperature all day. Even better: you can fill it beforehand and keep it in the cooler you got! I like Swell bottles because they keep things ice-cold or super hot all day, no matter the outside temperature.

5. Flannel Shirt

Did you really go apple picking if you didn't wear a flannel shirt? No. So buy one, it's necessary. It's also super comfortable and super warm. You can wear this all fall, even in the winter too.

Happy apple picking. I recommend empire apples, those are my favorite.
