Comedian Aziz Ansari Catches ‘Hudson Valley Flu’
If you were excited to see Aziz Ansari perform in the Hudson Valley, we have some bad news for you.
It looks like Ansari won't be coming to UPAC after all. The Parks & Recreation star was scheduled to appear in Kingston on May 13. Fans scrambled to snatch up tickets when the show was announced last week, but now it looks like the comedian will not be coming after all.
The Kingston venue posted last night that the show would be canceled due to "scheduling conflicts" but we know the real reason Ansari won't be coming to town is that he's contracted the "Poughkeepsie Flu." It's the same ailment that comedian David Cross had last year when he abruptly canceled his show at the Bardavon.
You may not have heard of the Poughkeepsie Flu, but it's a common illness that seems to only affect the most successful musicians, comedians and celebrities that happen to have shows booked in the Hudson Valley.
For years we've noticed that these big acts seem to come down with the Poughkeepsie Flu just weeks before their shows are scheduled in our area, canceling their trip to the Hudson Valley. The good news is that the illness doesn't seem to last very long, with those artists able to bounce back and appear in other cities and towns the very next day.
The biggest symptom of the Poughkeepsie Flu is "scheduling conflicts." That's the excuse Cross used for his cancellation and the same reason given for Ansari's no-show next week. Although the venue is saying that a new makeup date is "to be announced," it's probably not a good sign that ticket holders are being given a full refund for their tickets. The David Cross show was never rescheduled after the same announcement was made and refunds were given last year.
