The world's best pizzeria is opening their first location outside the five boroughs since 1933, and it's right here in the Mid Hudson Valley.

When discussing the history of pizza in America, one name must be mentioned. Pasquale "Patsy" Lancieri opened one of the very first pizzerias over 80 years ago and has been credited with inventing the "thin crust" style of pizza that has become synonymous with New York City. Pasquale was also the first pizza maker to start selling his pies by the slice. Patsy's first location in Harlem has become a pizza mecca where people from all over the world line up to taste the old-world, traditional pizza that tops just about every list of the best pizza in the world.

Now being run by the fourth generation of pizza makers, Patsy's is finally opening up their first stand-alone pizzeria outside of the five boroughs. And it happens to be right here in the Hudson Valley. Patsy's Pizzeria of Wappingers Falls registered as a corporation with the State of New York on May 22. According to Village officials, Patsy's will be opening up at 2657 East Main Street. The store was previously occupied by an antique shop before a fire ripped through the building in 2017.

Officials say the new Patsy's Pizzeria is already built out and is expected to open within the next two months. There are already two other pizza shops on the same block in the Village of Wappingers. Eddie's Gourmet Pizza and the Wagon Wheel have both been selling pizza in the Village of Wappingers Falls for decades.

Grimaldi's Pizza of Brooklyn, originally founded in 1941 by Patsy Lancieri's nephew in Brooklyn opened up a New Paltz location in 2010.  Their unique, coal-fired pizza received rave reviews before the restaurant closed a few years later for unknown reasons.
