A Hudson Valley man was killed after his lawnmower was hit by a car. His brother is in serious condition.

On Sunday around 8:45 p.m, the Ramapo Police Department responded to Route 17 in Sloatsburg, near the intersection of Washington Avenue, following reports that a car hit a lawnmower which was carrying two Hudson Valley men.

Richard M. Mackey and Raymond Mackey, both 29 of Sloatsburgh, were hit by an Orange County man driving a 2006 Honda as the brothers attempted to cross Route 17 while on a riding lawnmower, police say.

On Monday, police announced Richard Mackey died from his injuries. His brother, Raymond, who's believed to be the operator of the lawnmower is currently hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the Ramapo police.

The driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old man from Monroe, remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, police say.

No charges have been filed at this time. The Ramapo Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Detectives are still actively investigating this incident.
