New York State has taxpayers in a panic after incorrect notices were sent out.

WKBW reports that New York State mistakenly sent out notices saying that people who already received a tax refund were actually not entitled to a refund. The notices were sent because of a computer glitch.

According to WKBW, the notice seems to only have been sent to government employees. So U.S. Postal Service workers, TSA workers, Homeland Security employees, or people who are serving in the military. The New York State Department of Tax and Finance told WKBW that they are working diligently to ensure ongoing and timely notifications are sent to New York State taxpayers.

This is the first year that New York State tax laws are not the same as Federal tax laws, due to a disagreement regarding tax reform. According to WKBW, it has not been confirmed if this is the reason for the glitch.
